Now this is podcasting!

I want you to know about some of my favorite Star Wars podcasts.

The first one that I really loved is Skytalkers. Caitlin and Charlotte are great researchers and their energy is so infectiously positive. I had almost given up my search for a great Star Wars podcast to listen to after wading through so many that turned me off (Star Wars content creation really can be such a wretched hive of scum and villainy), but then I found Skytalkers and I finally believed that my people were out there.

I also love What the Force? Host Marie-Claire brings literary expertise and other academic lenses to her Star Wars analysis which is always so enlightening. Her coverage of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Willow series are among my favorite stuff from her.

Another great one is Blast Points. It’s a really fun and funny show that also features some extremely delightful sound design and music and archival sound.

And lastly, Into a Larger World. Not only is it a phenomenal podcast, it’s also an amazing zine! I am never more excited to receive mail than when a new edition arrives from creator Kara DJ. She is the queen of the rabbit hole when it comes to Star Wars fandom history. I still think all the time about a Celebration panel she was a part of on fan speculation.

And now for a bonus recommendation! When I was looking around to see if there were other shows that were doing something similar to what I had envisioned for this show, i.e. super intricately crafted radio-style stories about Star Wars, I discovered Eric Molinsky’s incredible show, Imaginary Worlds. He has lots of great Star Wars stories, but his focus is more general nerdiness. He describes his show as “what would happen if NPR went to ComicCon and decided that’s all they ever wanted to cover.” After falling in love with his podcast, it dawned on me that a few years earlier, Eric had actually hired me for a freelance audio recording gig. I drove up into the woods of Connecticut and met this awesome prop maker, and it was one of my favorite gigs ever. I never listened to the finished piece at the time, but if I had, I would have become a fan much sooner.
